Details of Palm Waste Recycling Project in Indonesia
This Indonesian customer is involved in the palm processing industry. They are facing challenges with the accumulation of palm kernel shells and Empty Fruit Bunch (EFB) fibers, byproducts of palm oil production. After testing and confirming the feasibility of a palm waste-to-biochar project, they are now scaling up production. Below are the project details:
- Customer Needs: effective volume reduction and resourcing of various plam waste;
- Project Solution: continuous pyrolysis technology;
- Raw Materials: palm kernel shells, EFB Fibers, EFB Pellets and more;
- End Biochar Use: soil improvement and environmental benefits;
- Final Solution Configuration: 10-15m³/h capacity biochar machine+ long-drum dryer + biochar spray & mixing facility; 30-day on-site installation guidance.
Palm Industry in Indonesia: Towards Sustainability
Indonesia is the world’s largest producer and exporter of palm oil, with palm oil refining mills constituting a significant portion of the global supply. However, for every ton of palm oil produced, large quantities of waste are generated, including:
- 5 tons of Empty Fruit Bunches (EFB)
- 1 ton of fruit fiber
- 0.5 tons of palm kernel shells
- 0.25 tons of fruit sludge
These byproducts have historically posed significant challenges in terms of waste management. As the palm oil industry continues to grow, it is crucial to transition from a linear production model to a more circular one. By incorporating sustainable waste management practices such as pyrolysis recycling, the industry can reduce waste, extend the product life cycle, and contribute positively to environmental sustainability.
