What Is Rice Hull Carbonizer?

A rice husk carbonizer, also a biochar machine, converts rice hulls into biochar or charcoal through a high-temperature, low-oxygen pyrolysis process. Typically, milling 1 kg of white rice results in approximately 0.28 kg of rice husk waste. The rice husk charcoal machine offers a sustainable and eco-friendly solution for managing this agricultural byproduct.

How to Make Carbonized Rice Hull?

01 Preheating

Preheat the reactor of rice hull carbonizer for 1-1.5 hours with your fuel. The high-temperature exhaust gas will be recycled to the dryer for drying materials, rice hull.

02 Feeding and Drying

The belt conveyor inputs rice hulls into the dryer. (If the moisture of rice hull is <15% or you can dry them naturally to<15%, no need for a dryer).

Then the materials will be dried by high-temperature exhaust gas generated from rice husk pyrolysis. The final exhaust gas can be discharged after the de-dusting system.

03 Pyrolysis/Carbonization

It takes about 20 minutes to get biochar.

  • 01 Drying – 150℃: At this stage, the rice husk is inside the reactor’s inner barrel, where its moisture is evaporated. However, the shape of the rice husk remains unchanged at this point.
  • 02 Endothermic pyrolysis – 220-270℃: At this stage, the rice hulls begin to decompose and release gaseous products (such as CQ, CO2, H2S, etc.), and the chemical composition of the rice hulls begins to change.
  • 03 Carbonization – 270-400℃: At this stage, a large amount of volatiles are precipitated from the rice hulls, and almost all the products such as methanol, and ethylene precipitated in the carbonization process are produced in this stage. The residual solid product obtained is charcoal.

04 Syngas Recycling

During the above reaction, syngas generated will enter the hydro-seal to be cleaned and then return to the combustion chamber to heat the reactor. This can save you a lot of fuel costs. The excess biogas will be burned out in a waste gas combustion chamber.

05 Biochar Discharging

Finally, rice hull biochar will be discharged safely by the water-cooling auto screw discharger. Additionally, if you equip rice husk carbonizer with a rice husk charcoal briquette machine, you can increase the value of the biochar by converting it into compact, market-ready briquettes.

06 Exhaust Gas Treatment

The exhaust gas undergoes multiple dedusting treatments, ensuring safe and eco-friendly emissions. You can choose a high-end exhaust gas treatment system so that the final emissions can meet EU standards.

Rice Husk Biochar in Carbon Removal

Carbon Sequestration in Environmental Protection

  • sequester carbon in solid form to prevent it from returning to the atmosphere as CO2, helping mitigate climate change;
  • store carbon for hundreds to thousands of years, depending on the conditions. Unlike other forms of carbon storage that might release CO2 over time, rice husk biochar creates a long-term carbon sink that supports global efforts to reduce greenhouse gas emissions.
Rice Hull Biochar in Industry

Fuel and Reductants in Industry

  • serve as an effective burning fuel in energy-intensive industries such as cement production, steel manufacturing, and brick kilns;
  • act as a reductant in certain industrial processes, particularly in the production of metals like iron and steel.
Rice Husk Biochar in Animal Husbandry

Feed Additive and Bedding in Animal Husbandry

  • as an animal feed additive to improve digestion, enhance gut health and reduce methane emissions from ruminants like cattle;
  • as bedding materials to control moisture and odors in animal housing, improving environments for livestock.

Favorable Market Factors of Rice Husk Biochar Production Project

Investing in a rice hull carbonizer presents opportunities for growth due to several favorable market conditions. Below are the key factors that make the rice husk charcoal making machine an attractive investment:

Rice Husk Carbonize Biochar Business

Economic Advantages

  • Low Raw Material Cost: Rice is a staple crop for over half of the global population, making rice husks abundant and low-cost. Therefore, rice husk carbonization business becomes more competitive in the market.
  • Circular Economy and Sustainability Trends: The global shift toward a circular economy is driving demand for sustainable solutions. Rice hull biochar supports green energy supply, sustainable agriculture, etc.
  • Government Incentives: Many governments are offering subsidies, tax breaks, and other incentives to businesses involved in waste management, sustainable agriculture, etc.

Environmental Consideration

  • Reduction of Greenhouse Gas Emissions: The pyrolysis of rice husks helps reduce methane emissions, which are typically generated when organic waste like rice husks decomposes in landfills. By converting these wastes into valuable products, rice husk carbonizer directly contributes to mitigating climate change.
  • Contribution to Waste Reduction: The rice husk carbonization process not only provides a valuable product but also helps reduce waste in landfills. By repurposing rice husks, which would otherwise be discarded, the business promotes sustainable waste management practices.
