What Is Rice Hull Carbonizer?
A rice hull biochar production equipment is designed to convert rice hulls into charcoal through a pyrolysis/carbonization process (heating rice hulls at high temperatures with low oxygen). Typically, each kg of milled white rice results in roughly 0.28 kg of rice husk waste during milling. The machine serves as a sustainable and eco-friendly solution for managing this waste, as it transforms waste into a valuable resource.
Note: Rice hull, also called rice husk. So the rice hull carbonizer is also called rice husk carbonizer, rice husk charcoal making machine, etc.

Continuous Pyrolysis Technology: Leading Your Rice Husk Biochar Business
Beston Group has continuously overcome challenges, achieving groundbreaking advancements in rice husk pyrolysis/carbonization technology. With the ability to operate for 120, 360, and 720 hours continuously, this core technology offers numerous benefits to your business:
Increased Efficiency and Stability
The extended operational cycles offer higher capacity and stability than batch pyrolysis. With fewer downtimes, you can achieve a higher output of carbonized rice husk, meeting growing market demands with ease.
Cost-Effectiveness and Optimal ROI
A longer continuous operation means more efficient resource utilization. With minimal maintenance required, you reduce labor and maintenance costs, ultimately lowering overall operating expenses.
Meet Entry Standards of Carbon Credit Market
- Low Emissions: Continuous rice hull carbonizer offers efficient and low-emission pyrolysis. During whole production, it minimizes greenhouse gas emissions (such as CO₂, CH₄, NOx, etc.), meeting the environmental standards required for carbon sequestration certification.
- Flexible Raw Material Sources: Continuous biomass pyrolysis plant can process various types of agricultural and forestry biomass waste. This provides customers with diverse sources of carbon sequestration, helping to maximize the potential for carbon capture.
How to Make Carbonized Rice Hull?
01 Preheating
02 Feeding and Drying
The belt conveyor inputs rice hulls into the dryer. (If the moisture of rice hull is <15% or you can dry them naturally to<15%, no need for a dryer).
Then the materials will be dried by high-temperature exhaust gas generated from rice husk carbonation. The final exhaust gas can be discharged after the de-dusting system.
03 Pyrolysis/Carbonization
It takes about 20 min to get biochar.
- 01 Drying – 150℃: At this stage, the rice husk is inside the reactor’s inner barrel, where its moisture is evaporated. However, the shape of the rice husk remains unchanged at this point.
- 02 Endothermic pyrolysis – 220-270℃: At this stage, the rice hulls begin to decompose and release gaseous products (such as CQ, CO2, H2S, etc.), and the chemical composition of the rice hulls begins to change.
- 03 Carbonization – 270-400℃: At this stage, a large amount of volatiles are precipitated from the rice hulls, and almost all the products such as methanol, and ethylene precipitated in the carbonization process are produced in this stage. The residual solid product obtained is charcoal.

How about the Quality of Carbonized Rice Hull?
- Stable Fixed Carbon Content: The high-temperature, low-oxygen pyrolysis process maintains the fixed carbon content of the rice husk charcoal at around 40%. This ensures excellent combustion performance and a higher calorific value.
- Low Moisture Content: High-temperature pyrolysis carried away moisture in rice hulls. Rice husk carbonizer cools rice hull biochar through interlayer water cooling, preventing moisture contact. This makes it ideal for long-term storage and use.
- Low Sulfur Content: Rice husk biochar has a sulfur content of just around 0.1%, preventing harmful sulfur compound release during use. This meets environmental standards, making it suitable for agricultural, industrial, and other uses.
Carbonized Rice Hull Benefits/Uses
Carbonized rice hull is also called rice hull charcoal, rice hull biochar, rice husk charcoal, rice husk biochar, etc. It has a wide range of applications in various industries. Please see the following.
Carbonized Rice Hull Benefits for Plants
- porous and lightweight nature – enhance soil aeration, drainage, and water retention; prevents waterlogging, drought, and soil compaction;
- P, K, Ca, and M nutrients – gradually release into the soil, providing essential nourishment for plant growth;
- cation exchange capacity – promote microorganisms and healthy root development in plants;
- a pH greater than 7 – improve acid soil.
Carbon Sequestration in Environmental Protection
- sequester carbon in solid form to prevent it from returning to the atmosphere as CO2, helping mitigate climate change;
- store carbon for hundreds to thousands of years, depending on the conditions. Unlike other forms of carbon storage that might release CO2 over time, rice husk biochar creates a long-term carbon sink that supports global efforts to reduce greenhouse gas emissions.
Fuel and Reductants in Industry
- serve as an effective burning fuel in energy-intensive industries such as cement production, steel manufacturing, and brick kilns;
- act as a reductant in certain industrial processes, particularly in the production of metals like iron and steel.
Feed Additive and Bedding in Animal Husbandry
- as an animal feed additive to improve digestion, enhance gut health and reduce methane emissions from ruminants like cattle;
- as bedding material to control moisture and odors in animal housing, improving environments for livestock.
Market Favorable Factors of Rice Husk Carbonize Business
The rice husk carbonization business presents numerous opportunities for growth due to several favorable market conditions. Below are the key factors that make the rice husk carbonization business an attractive investment:
Economic Environment
Low Raw Material Cost: Rice is a staple crop for over half of the global population, making rice husks abundant and low-cost. Therefore, rice husk carbonization business becomes more competitive in the market.
Circular Economy and Sustainability Trends: The global shift toward a circular economy is driving demand for sustainable solutions. Rice hull biochar supports green energy supply, sustainable agriculture, etc.
Government Incentives: Many governments are offering subsidies, tax breaks, and other incentives to businesses involved in waste management, sustainable agriculture, etc.
