Welcome to consult!

What Is Thermal Desorption?

Thermal desorption is an environmental remediation technology for hazardous waste treatment. It utilizes heat to increase the volatility of contaminants to remove them from the solid matrix (like soil, sludge, or filter cake). All thermal desorption technologies consist of two steps:

  • Step 1: Heat the contaminated material to volatilize the organic contaminants.
  • Step 2: Treat the exhaust gas stream to prevent emissions of the volatilized contaminants to the atmosphere.

Therefore, a thermal desorption equipment usually has two major components: the desorber itself and the off-gas treatment system.

Note: Not all thermal desorption units (TDU) can handle every type of contaminated material. Factors like temperature range, capacity, and the specific contaminants present influence their suitability. Therefore, consulting the manufacturer or a qualified environmental engineer is crucial to ensure a TDU can effectively process a specific type of raw material.

Beston Group TDU Solution: Specialized in Oil Sludge Treatment

Approximately 100 million tons of oil sludge are generated annually. They contain harmful substances like heavy metals, pathogens, and benzene, posing environmental and health risks. Beston Group’s thermal desorption unit (TDU), also known as a pyrolysis plant, is specifically engineered for oil sludge treatment and recycling. Whether you’re an oilfield operator, refinery manager, or environmental remediation contractor, the TDU solution addresses your oil sludge waste challenges.

Industry Pain Points Breakthrough: 200% Efficiency ⬆️

Traditional oil sludge treatment often suffers from severe coking, low thermal efficiency, and poor automation. Beston TDU thermal desorption unit solution is different. The innovative “hot water washing + pyrolysis” integrated process boosts processing efficiency by 200%. The BLJ-16 model achieves a remarkable capacity of 6,000 tons per year—a milestone that sets new standards in the market.

Industry Pain Points: Low production efficiency

  • Coking Problems: During oil sludge treatment, some sludge forms hard cokes on the inner walls or pipelines of the equipment. This severely affects operational efficiency and equipment lifespan.
  • Low Thermal Efficiency: Coking clogs the equipment, leading to heat loss and reduced energy efficiency, which in turn lowers overall productivity.

Solution: Thermal-Wash + Pyrolysis Combination

  • Thermal-Wash Pre-Treatment: It efficiently removes impurities and moisture in oil sludge at the initial stage, ensuring a cleaner and more stable feed.
  • Intelligent Pyrolysis Technology: With over 95% thermal efficiency, our oil sludge pyrolysis plant features precise temperature control to prevent coking.

Oil Sludge Sources

Oil sludge refers to the significant amount of waste generated during exploration, extraction, and transportation processes, typically categorized into oily sludge from oilfields and oily sludge generated by the petrochemical industry, primarily from refineries.

Oil Sludge Thermal Desorption Process

Thermal desorption equipment from different manufacturers may be designed to handle different materials, so the specific working process may have differences. Take Beston Group‘s TDU unit as an example, the general working process is as follows:

01 Feeding

Convey oil sludge to the reactor in specific ways:

Oil Sludge Feeding Way
< liquid content 40% belt conveyor
40%-60% liquid content shaftless spiral
>75% liquid content oil sludge pump

02 Thermal desorption

Heat the reactor. Under the oxygen-free, high-temperature, and sealed reactor, oil sludge decomposes into oil gas, sand, and water.

03 Final Product Collection

  • Oil Gas Condensation: The oil gas enters into the condenser, liquified into pyrolysis oil.
  • Syngas Recycling: The non-condensable syn-gas enters the combuster after being water-sealed and desulphurized. It provide heat energy for thermal desorption reaction.
  • Solid Discharging: The screw discharging system is used to transport solid residues (Sand) out, cooled down by the water-cooling heat exchange way.

04 Exhaust Gas Treatment

The final hot smoke gas will undergo dedusting treatment and is emitted when achieving emission standards. Dedusting system can be customized to meet your local environmnetal protection standards.
